| Born in
the 1920’s, Finocchiaro left Sicily at an early age to pursue an
acting career in Milan. There, he began experimenting with photography.
After being part of “Circolo Fotografico Milanese” and “Il
Naviglio”, Finochiarro founded “Il Gruppo 66” together
with other prominent photographers in Milan. His art has gone through
several interesting phases, with the self-portrait series being one of
the earliest and most experimental. During his affiliation with “Il
Gruppo 66,” Finochiarro produced an impressive body of photographs
titled “Gent de Milan” (People of Milan). Another series to
have occupied his time was one of his adolescent daughter in which he
captures a dramatic, intense, and pure atmosphere. Mario Finochiarro died
in December of 1999. |
